CUMMING, GA – Sawnee Electric Membership Corporation (Sawnee EMC) is proud to announce it will be applying the 2020 Load Management switch rebates early to all qualifying members. This action is in response to the effects that COVID-19 is having on the communities that Sawnee serves.
Historically, Sawnee members who have a Load Management switch installed at their outside HVAC unit receive a $36 per switch rebate, paid over a three (3) month period of June, July, and August.
However, due to the financial burden that COVID-19 has placed on many Sawnee EMC members, the decision was made to make these payments earlier than normal. This means that approximately $562,000 will be credited on the electric bills of affected accounts one month early, beginning in May. A total of $1.68 million will be paid to participating Load Management members over the three-month rebate period.
“We have been very focused on taking proactive measures for our members,” states Blake House, Vice President of Member Services. He further adds, “we understand that COVID-19, and the effects of the shelter in place order, have placed a financial burden on some of our members and we hope by making these rebates early, we can help make this burden a little less challenging.”
Sawnee’s traditional load management program operates via a radio-controlled switch that turns off a participating member’s HVAC compressor for approximately seven (7) minutes out of thirty (30) minutes. The system is typically activated no more than fifteen (15) times during the summer months of June, July, and August.
